Scrubber Retrofit

International Maritime Organization (IMO) amended "International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships". Starting from January 1, 2020, sulfur content of all marine fuels should not exceed 0.5% by weight, or ships should be equipped with equivalent Equipment such as desulfurization tower to reduce the emissions of sulfur oxides from ships.

Workflow

We provide turnkey solution for Owners, including onboard 3D scanning, building 3D models, piping design, electric analyzing and related arrangement, submitting drawings for class approval, and sending personnel to installation and supervising until commissioning test completed.

The advantage of turnkey solution is that design and installation belong to the same contract, which can reduce the number of contracting and greatly reduce interface coordination issues and project management personnel. In addition, we can also shorten installation period and cost through parallel operation of design and installation, and because we fully understand the design concept, we can ensure project quality.

Onboard 3D scanning

With 3D scanner, attend target vessel and carry out 3D scanning.

Build 3D model

Identify pipelines based on scanned images and build a 3D model.

Design and submit drawings to Class for approval

Arrange system and design piping based on built 3D model, and submit drawings for class approval.

Material prefabrication

Issue material lists to purchase and to prefabricate required materials such as pipes, valves and cables.

Installation and supervision

Start installation and supervising, to ensure the quality of installation and handle related matters on site.

Commissioning test

Watch and check commissioning test result together with maker and surveyor after installation.
07

Warranty

Provide a one-year warranty consultation and technical assistance related to system after test completed.

Projects

We completed Scrubber Retrofit for two 8063TEU container ships, OOCL Luxembourg and OOCL London in 2020. In the past, our retrofit experience was mostly concentrated on bulk carriers. This is the first time we have experience of container ships, creating a new milestone for Genius Star.
These two vessels are equipped with 80MW main engine, adopting open-loop-typed twin tower, which make design and installation more complicated and difficult than single tower. Without sacrificing any container, we successfully combined original ship design, completed the arrangement and installation of Scrubber in limited space. It not only allows Owner to maintain existing operating conditions, but also complies with IMO regulations on 0.1% sulfur emission limit of twin tower and the wastewater discharge limit.
